- 0': It's Newcastle manager Bobby Robson's 70th birthday today and his players will be looking to deliver the perfect present against Bayer Leverkusen.
- 0': But the Bundesliga side have just sacked coach Klaus Toppmoeler and this will be new boss Horster's first game in charge - and the former Leverkusen player will want to start with a win at the BayArena.
- 1': The players are out on the pitch and Newcastle get the game underway.
- 2': Butt lofts the ball upfield and it runs through to Given. Both keepers get an early touch.
- 2': Ameobi latches on to a long pass and wins a freekick in Robert's range......
- 3': ...The Frenchman bends the ball over the wall and the bar.
- 4': Speed orchastrates the play from midfield. LuaLua spins on the edge of the box but Balitsch gets a foot in.
- 5': LuaLua dances past two defenders on the right-wing and chips a cross into the box.....
- 5': ......Ameobi stands unmarked in the box and heads the ball home from 5-yards out. GOAL!!!
- 6': A terrible start for Leverkusen, who are yet to mount any knid of attack.
- 7': Neuville chips a long freekick into the box and Hughes hoofs it clear.
- 8': Simak receives a poor pass in the middle of the pitch and is fouled by Speed.
- 9': Brdaric drives at the Newcastle defence but overruns the ball and O'Brien clears.
- 10': Neuville attacks down the right flank but Bramble sprints across to make a good sliding challenge.
- 11': The Germans seem to be realising they are actually supposed to be playing football.
- 12': Cris brings the ball out form the back but gets caught in possession by LuaLua. The ball spins to Jenas, who hits a poor cross.
- 13': Simak goes in for a 50 - 50 with Bramble and comes out of the tackle with ball. Neuville makes a run but Simka can't deliver the pass.
- 14': Ameobi picks up the ball in midfield after a mistake by Cris and drives towards goal....
- 15': ...the striker outpaces the Leverkusen defence and slots the ball past Butt form the edge of the box. GOAL!!!!
- 21': Thats 2-0 to Newcastle and Bobby Robson looks set to have a very happy birthday.
- 22': Balitsch hasn't got the pace to stay with LuaLua so he hauls back the striker and gets booked - his third of the competition.
- 23': Newcastle are in cruise control at the moment. LuaLua shruggs of Cris, but the ref says it was a foul.
- 24': ...but Leverkusen build a threatening attack as Simak and Franca play a one-two on the edge of the box......
- 25': ...Franca breaks through the Newcastle defence and chips the ball over the advancing Given. GOAL!!!!!
- 26': Leverkusen have given themselves some hope as LuaLua gives away a freekick in a dangerous area.
- 27': Neuville takes a long run-up and smacks the ball into the wall and then behind for a corner.
- 28': Franca gets the ball at the back post and looks up to chip the ball back into a crowded box. But his delivery is poor.
- 29': Newcastle like to make things interesting and are letting Bayer back into this match.
- 30': The Magpies are on the attack with LuaLua, who runs at Cris and draws yet another foul from the defender.
- 31': Robert lines-up a freekick, in the centre of goal and 25-yards out, but strikes the ball straight into the wall.
- 32': Neuville tries to keep the ball in play - he does but Robert takes possession and whips in a cross from the left-wing.
- 33': An unmarked LuaLua sprints onto the cross and smashes the ball past Butt from close range. GOAL!!!!!
- 34': Newcastle are well and truly back in the driving seat now, after quashing Bayer's revival.
- 35': Basturk dribbles down the right and flicks the ball into the box with the outside of his boot. O'Brien heads clear.
- 36': O'Brien's clearence drops to Brdaric, who hits a first time 35-yard volley that drifts well wide of Given's post.
- 37': Ameobi holds the ball up well then delivers a poor pass out wide but Leverkusen make yet another mistake in defence.
- 39': Basturk and Bdaric combine on the right. Basturk whips the ball in from the left and Given gets down well to smother the ball in the box.
- 40': Things look bleak for Bayer. Thay don't seem to be able to defend and the crowd are virtually silent.
- 41': Dyer drives into the area and cuts the ball back for LuaLua, who looks certain to score.....
- 42': ...but Cris slides in with a great block at the near post. Corner to Newcastle.
- 43': Robert takes it short. Jenas dances past two lunges and slips the ball through the defence to LuaLua. The ref blows for offside.
- 44': Ojigwe has a chnce to cross from the left. Hughes jumps to block the cross and it deflects into Given's grasp.
- 45': Robert's corner is headed back to him and the Frenchman chips the ball back into the danger area.....
- 45': ...Ameobi is unmarked but opts to try an overhead kick and makes a hash of it. The ref blows for half-time.
- 0': Leverkusen will be happy it's the break until they get into the changingroom and suffer the wrath of Horster.
- 0': There were no defenders anywhere near the Newcastle goalscorers and the Magpies will be hoping for more woeful marking in the second-half.
- 46': Leverkusen get the second-half underway and Schneider is on for Preuss.
- 47': Neuville delivers a corner from the right. Brdaric climbs highest but heads over the bar.
- 48': Brdaric is putting in some real effort for Bayer's cause. He drives virtually the full length of the pitch, wins back possession in the corner and lays the ball off to Basturk - who is tackled too easily.
- 49': Simak skips past Bernard and Bramble has to head clear at his near post.
- 50': Schneider picks the ball up on the left. The German international beats Bernard and whips in an excellent cross....

- 53': Robert curls the ball into the box from a freekick and Amoebi looks to have his man beaten...
- 54': ...The striker shruggs of Cris and heads the ball goalwards - again the ref blows for a foul.
- 55': Leverkusen build an attack. Franac looks to have lost possession bu7t manges to flick the ball into Brdaric's path.
- 56': The striker, playing as a winger, hurries his shot from close range and spoons it past the post.
- 57': Bramble dives into a tackle on the edge of the box and the ref blows for a freekick. The Leverkusen players a furious - they think it should be a penalty.
- 58': After all the hoo-ha has died down Neuville wastes the freekick.
- 59': Leverkusen are looking lively now as Schneider finds space for a cross on the right-wing. The German has two players waiting in the box....
- 60': ...Schneider's cross skips off the ground inches away from Franca's boot and Brdaric can't turn the ball goalwards at the back post.
- 61': Newcastle have gone to sleep.
- 62': O'Brien plays the ball back to Given with pace and the keeper has to move quickly to hoof the ball clear before a Bayer player pounces on it.
- 64': LuaLua shrugs off two tough challenges and runs to the byline before delivering a cross. Ameobi is at the near post but is offside.
- 65': Basturk skips past Jenas and then hits the worst cross of the night. The Turkish international has been off his game tonight.
- 66': Cris clatters Ameobi on the edge fo the box. The striker goes to ground but the ref waves play on.
- 67': Newcastle win a freekick and Robert stands over the ball.....
- 68': ...The Frenchman takes a long run-up and can't hit the target with his shot.
- 68': Leverkusen make a change and 17-year-old Callsen-Bracker replaces Cris, who has had a torrid time.
- 70': The youngster gets his first touch and plays it back to his keeper, Butt.
- 71': Newcastle can't seem to keep possession and Ojigwe comes forward for Leverkusen.
- 72': The leftback drives into the box and hits a curling shot over the bar as Hughes backs off.
- 73': The Magpies build from the back until Ameobi is penalised for a foul against Brdaric...that never was.
- 74': Robert picks the ball up in midfield. He looks up and hits a pitiful shot from 35-yards that trickles to Butt.
- 75': LuaLua shrugs off Balitsch and turns to chase Given's goalkick, but Callsen-Bracker is there to mop up at the back.
- 76': Dyer is still sprinting all over the place and chases down Basturk to deny Leverkusen a quick break.
- 77': Neuville and Bernard are having a dual on the right and the German is losing.
- 78': Leverkusen make another change. Yellow carded Balitsch is replaced by Kaluzny.
- 79': Leverkusen's attempted revival looks to be running out of steam as we head into the final ten minutes.
- 80': Basturk twists and turns but can't find a way past Jenas and the ball goes backwards.
- 81': Newcastle a ready to make a double substitution as Bayer attack.
- 82': Robert tackles (yes tackles) Schneider and gives the ball to Dyer who sprints forward. He has only one defender to beat and LuaLua in support......
- 82': ...Kleine commits to Dyer, who slips the ball right to LuaLua. The striker lashes a wide shot over the bar with only the keeper to beat.
- 83': That will be his last contribution as Newcastle make a double change.
- 84': Both strikers are going off and two new ones coming on. Cort replaces LuaLua and Chopra replaces Ameobi.
- 85': Neuville forages down the right. He has no support so plays the ball off Bernard for a corner, but it bounces back hits Neuville and goes behind for a goalkick.
- 86': Schneider has romm for the cross. Instead he opts for a long-range shot but Given has his near post covered.
- 87': Bernard is happy to play the ball back to his fellow defenders as Newcastle look to play out the remaining time.
- 88': Chopra chases down Simak and tackles the midfielder in his own half to launch a Newcastle attack.
- 89': Leverkusen a two goals down and can't seem to get out of there own half as time ticks away.
- 90': That's it! the ref blows for full-time and Newcastle claim only their second away win in the Champions League.
